In a traditional analogue CCTV application, security cameras capture an analogue video signal and transfer the signal over coax cable to the DVR. Each camera may be powered by plugging in the power supply at the camera or by using RG59 Powerax cable which carries video signal and power simultaneously.
The DVR then converts the analogue signal to digital, compresses it and thereafter stores it on a hard drive for later retrieval. Intelligence is built into the DVR to handle such things as scheduling, motion detection and digital zoom. Monitors for viewing the video are connected to the DVR or it can be set-up on an internal network for video publishing to view on local area network PC’s. The DVR can also be set-up to publish the video on the internet whereby users can connect remotely via mobile devices to view the video stream from the DVR live.
